NOTES FROM THE SPECIAL DAY...

I met so many lovely people, two of whom, upon hearing that I am a genetic counselor, shared details of their children's conditions and the joys they have brought to their families' lives. It's funny how when you work in genetics, people tell you all sorts of things about their families, and I am both honored and privileged to be part of their narratives in some very small way.

One visitor told me that he had always been fascinated by genetics and is thinking of becoming a genetic counselor. I told him that I direct a masters program in genetic counseling and invited him to consider applying to be part of our next cohort of students. We had a great conversation, so I guess it IS possible to mix business with pleasure!

Another author and I talked for a while about marketing, as they own a media company. I mentioned that I need to learn more about book marketing, and they have already started putting a proposal together for me, so I guess you never know when or where your next good opportunity will come from!
